After hearing the proposals of all four choices, I have come to the conclusion that none of these four options will be efficient enough to turn Iraq into a democratic, stable and in economically perfect conditions. However, out of the four choices we have been debating in class I still maintain the position I defended throughout the debate: option two.
Providing Iraq with the means to succeed by its own is the best solution out of all four, because it would help and guide the Iraqis to create a more stable and democratic nation. We are aware that 80% of the Iraqi population wants the United States’ troops to leave their country, and this is why our objective is to withdraw the troops from Iraq as soon as possible. Other goals that we would aim for if this option was chosen are: decreasing unemployment, improving education and infrastructure, stabilizing the economy and most of all, the security of the people.
This is the best option because it’s the most reasonable and the most favorable for the Iraqis and the Americans as well. The damage in Iraq is already done, and this option is the only way to make the situation better and prevent it from happening again.

Hails of Wrath
This blog entry is from Al Tarrar, an Iraqi man that describes the current situation in the city of Baghdad. Al Tarrar is horrified by what he sees everyday in the streets of his city, and wants to communicate the instability and violence that Baghdad is suffering. He describes how people that are suspected to be somewhat weaker, such as a “dirty southerner”, is shot instantly. Innocent civilians are being killed constantly and it is becoming a normal scene to see people dead in the middle of the streets. The city is devastated and although some men still work, most of the activity in the city has stopped.
I believe this blog is reliable. Al Tarrar is not only explaining how horrible life in the city of Baghdad is becoming, but he is proving it with many true facts. He states small details that happen that provide evidence of how dangerous and unstable the streets of his city are. His only purpose is to let everyone know what is happening and why it is a very concerning subject. The author seems like an ordinary Iraqi man that is worried about the situation that his people is living and is suffering from the terrible consequences of the war.
This blog entry is written by an Iraqi civilian so therefore it is obviously biased towards the people that suffer from the war, but his words are very objective and uses a lot of facts to prove that his statements are true. Al Tarrar has not omitted any information to benefit himself, and he obviously can’t say all the information possible. He is just explaining the situation of Iraq and only writes what he sees in the streets of Baghdad.
The Rape of Sabrine
This blog entry is written by an Iraqi civilian that is also describing the current situation in Iraq by explaining everyday events that provide evidence for this instability and violence. It was written in 2006, which was thought to be the worst year of violence in Iraq. It tells the story of an Iraqi woman that was captured by the American-trained security forces and raped by more than three different men. While the CNN was too busy talking about the economic crisis in the US after the Iraq War, the Al-Jazeera channel was telling the story of Sabrine, a woman that had lost all her hope in that someday Iraq would become a stable and safe country to live in.
This blog is reliable, because it tells the true story of the experiences of a woman, and it was broadcasted on television so it is not lying in any of the information stated. The author seems to be concerned about the situation and is only trying to communicate to the readers that it is a very crucial and it must be solved now.
It is biased towards the victims that live in Iraq, because he obviously is also being affected from the situation and is concerned about what is happening. You can tell that he is against the US and specially the media, because it criticizes the fact that while such terrible things are happening in Iraq, they prefer to talk about the economic crisis. It is not omitting any important information, but it is being subjective and giving his opinion about what is happening both in Iraq and in America.

Genocides are not inevitable. Humans were not created to kill each other, their instinct is not designed to think this way. This fact is what differs humans from animals, we have the capacity to reason and understand that everyone has the right to live and nobody is allowed to take control of nobody else. Animals, in the other hand, must kill each other to survive and that is what their animal instinct tells them to do. Therefore, genocide is not the way humans are, and it is not inevitable. Genocides have been occurring throughout history and are still going on today, but if we continue reacting the same way as we do now, genocides will never cease to happen. We are not able to control the feeling of people, and we cannot stop somebody from thinking he is superior than somebody else, but what we can do is stop these people from carrying out massive murders to a particular race or ethnic group, by combining our strengths and taking part in this conflict. Of course, we are the only ones that are able to stop this from happening, and if nobody takes the first step genocides will continue to occur. The security of our own country is obviously very important, but so is the security of many other millions of people that feel impotent and miserable because nobody is willing to help them solve this situation.

This movie tells the story of a young jewish pianist that tries to escape the threats of the Nazis and survive the horrible experience of the Holocaust. The main character, Wladyslaw Szpillman, spends five years of his life struggling to hide from the Nazi officials that are trying to eradicate all the Jewish citizens in the German territory. At the end, Wladyslaw is caught in the last of his hiding places, but when the Nazi official hears the amazing melody of his notes on the piano, he can’t help saving his life. The War finally ends and Wladyslaw is able to return to his life as a pianist like before, but the dark and unforgettable experience of the Holocaust will never abandon him. Questions:
- Who is the target audience?
Anybody that wants to know about the extremely hard life of the Jews during the Holocaust.
- How are the individuals or groups of people being represented or misrepresented in the film?
The Jewish people are represented as the impotent and weak that are tortured to the death from the Nazis, which are represented as the mean and insane torturers.
- What do you think the meaning of the narrative is? Why was it created?
The meaning is that the life of the Jewish people during World War II was destroyed by the Nazis and it was a horrible experience for all of them. It was created with the purpose of telling the world how bad it was so that it can never happen again.
- Were stereotypes being perpetuated or broken down?
The stereotype of the Nazis were broken down.
- Did you like the film? Support your answer.
Yes I really liked it because it combined the personal and sensible life of the main character with the actual facts that occurred during the Holocaust and made it a very interesting and entertaining story.
Article Response
A French woman suffered from a rare and painful facial tumour. Her face was totally disfigured and the tumour was becoming worst every day. The French law prohibited euthanasia, which is allowing someone to die by medical measures. It was thought to be ethically incorrect and therefore the woman had to remain living with the pain and suffer the horrible consequences of her disease.
This article raises discussion about euthanasia. Why does it matter if it is ethically correct or not when a person is suffering greatly, to the point of wanting to die? I believe that euthanasia should be legal in all countries because the health and well-being people is above ethics or moral issues.

If by killing someone you become a murderer, why does stealing somebody else’s euro not make you a thief? Does every action we take able to change our identity completely? it is all a matter of perspective and the way each person interprets different things. you do not need a specific number of days doing voluntary service in order to become a solidary person, the same as you don’t need to commit a certain number of crimes in order to be known as a murderer. it all relies on how people view things and it obviously it depends on the situation. different people might judge you differently for doing something, but in the end what matters is not what you’ve done in the past, because that is already done and you cannot change it anymore. although your past might affect your present, the present is made to correct your error and start all over again. that way, your actions in the past will not be able to affect your future, which in the long run is the most important.
